Roof Cleaning 

Keeping your roof clear of foliage and vegetation will not only improve the appearance of your property, but help prolong the life of your roof and stop potential water ingress. A roof with a heavy layer of moss is less efficient at shedding water, which can lead to moisture ingress through the tiles and premature rotting of the roofs timber structure. 

Moss Removal

It's well known power washing your roof can lead to more issues than it solves and potentially take years off its life. At A&B, we use manual scraping and brushing methods to remove the moss from your roof, ensuring the roof remains undamaged. Manually scraping the moss from your roof also allows us to carry out a good inspection of your roof at the same time. 

Biocide Treatments

Once all the moss has been removed from your roof and disposed off, we will treat the entire surface with a fast acting and long lasting biocide, which kills off any remaining moss beds, lichen and biofilm, leaving behind a clean and tidy roof. The biocide will also act like a shield against future moss, preventing it from returning for a number of years. 

Cleaning Up Moss

After we've removed all the moss from your roof, we will clean the gutters, ensuring they free from any debris and collect all the moss. We use netting to protect flower beds and bushes to stop the moss from getting amongst them, ensuring your gardens look exactly as we found them, moss free.

We can access up to 3 storeys from a ladder, before needing to hire any height equipment. Where suitable roof access is possible, we can also use roof ladders and rope access equipment to allow us to clean the roof on high rise tenement properties without the need to hire cherry pickers. How much does it cost to have my Roof cleaned?

As a rough guide, we tend to charge £4 per square meter for anything up to two storeys in height, then £6 per meter for anything higher on non-commercial buildings. For commercial or industrial roof cleaning pricing, please get in touch to request a free quote. 

Is it worth getting my Roof cleaned?

How often should you clean your Roof?

Depending on a number of factors, such as sun exposure, nearby vegetation, neighbouring roofs cleanliness, the moss will grow on your roof at different rates. It's a good idea to get it treated every couple of years once all the moss has been removed to keep it at bay though.  

How long does it take to clean a roof?

This depends on the size of the area to clean, the steepness of the roof and the complexity of the roofs surface. For a 2 storey terraced house, it usually take a day to complete.

What problems can a mossy roof cause?

A mossy roof leads to repeated blocked gutters, as the moss falls off the roof, it's washed into the gutters and blocks downpipes. As it retains moisture, it keeps your roof almost permanently damp, which will eventually make it's way into your roof space and cause early rot. On some types of concrete tiles, the moss can also cause severe pitting and deface the tile surface, which makes them brittle and prone to cracking. 

Can you install something to stop the roof getting mossy?

We can install copper or lead strips at the ridge, which helps stop moss from regrowing. When the rain washes over the ridge it gets contaminated by the copper/lead and makes it difficult for the moss to grow. Combined with an appropriate treatment schedule, the moss won't return.
